Olsen Avenue rail installation

Works to install rail across Olsen Avenue will occur this weekend (5-8 May) as part of the 7.3 kilometre extension of the Gold Coast light rail.

A complete intersection closure of Olsen Avenue and Wintergreen and Parklands Drive is scheduled from 8.00pm Friday 5 May to 5.00am Monday 8 May, weather permitting.

GoldlinQ CEO Phil Mumford said traffic movements will be restricted during the works and motorists should avoid the area for non-essential travel.

“These are significant works and detours will be in place however delays will occur. Emergency vehicles will be given priority access at all times and we urge those not visiting the hospital or other businesses in the area to use alternative routes where possible,” he said.

“Access to businesses on Olsen Avenue will remain open and access to Gold Coast University Hospital will be via Hollows Way from Olsen Avenue southbound and Parklands Drive from the Smith Street Motorway.”

“We thank the community for their patience and if you are attending the precinct during these works please familiarise yourself with the detours and follow directional signage.”

During the weekend a total of 344 metres of rail will be installed with shorter lengths of 20 and 26 metres being welded into the four 86 metre spans required to cross the intersection.
