LIGHT RAIL SERVICE UPDATE - 11 DECEMBER 2016

Sunday, December 11, 2016

A team of people have been working throughout the weekend to restore the G:link service for Gold Coast passengers.

GoldlinQ CEO Phil Mumford said extensive testing had been conducted by technical experts on the light rail network and tram testing has been able to commence following repairs being carried out.

“This is a top priority for us. Everyone at GoldlinQ is focused on getting a solution for our passengers as quickly as possible,” he said.

“We have some of the best technical people from around the world working on this.”

Investigations indicate a fault in the fibre optic communication network between the Traction Power Substations (TPS) and the system’s control centre.

There are six TPS across Stage 1 of the network, all of which connect via an optical fibre network back to the control centre, and when there is a fault of this kind an emergency shutdown is activated.

We believe this fault is linked to recent storm activity.

Mr Mumford said bus services would be boosted tomorrow to ensure passengers were able to get to their destinations on time.

“We will be running buses in place of trams for as long as required and will have additional buses to meet peak weekday demand,” he said.

“We understand this causes inconvenience for our customers and will make sure there are people at the tram stations during peak periods to communicate to passengers and ensure they know how to use alternative transport,” he said.

Mr Mumford said GoldlinQ had been offered every support from its transport partners including TransLink and Surfside Buses.

“Our priority is to ensure passengers can continue to move across the city while the appropriate activities occur to resume services in a safe and organised manner,” he said.
