VOICES OF THE TRAM AND PLATFORM READY TO GUIDE COMMUTERS THROUGH THE CITY

Friday, November 2, 2012

The Voice of the Tram, Tom Vergotis, has been busy in the studio this week recording more than 100 messages for GoldLinQ’s light rail system.

Tom and fellow competition winner Voice of the Platform Anna Waters-Massey were chosen by the public to be heard on Gold Coast trams and at stations when services begin in mid-2014.

The competition, run by GoldLinQ with the help of radio station 1029 Hot Tomato, attracted 176 entries earlier this year.

The Top 5 entries were whittled down to two winners, Tom and Anna, by the Gold Coast community.

The files have now been sent to Germany where GoldLinQ’s rail systems partner Bombardier Transportation will upload the messages on to the trams before the vehicles are shipped to Australia next year.

Tom recorded tram destination messages along with safety and courtesy messages to be heard on board the tram, while Anna recorded messages to be heard on every platform across the 13-kilometre light rail route.

The first Gold Coast-bound tram, being built now in Germany, will arrive in the country in mid-2013 with the rest of the 14 fleet vehicles to arrive by early 2014.
